Ms. Mary Alice Young, age 67 of Cookeville,  a native of Sparta, passed away at 6:41am on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Alice was born September 14, 1958 in Sparta, Tennessee. to the late James A. and America Lee "Merkey" Miller Young.  She was a former shirt factory worker and a homemaker. Alice loved to fish, hunt ginseng and never passed up a chance to haggle at a yard sale.

Alice is preceded in death by her mother America Lee "Merkey" Miller Holman; father James A. Young and brothers Arthur, Steve and David Young.

Survivors include her three children: Mary Rose Cantrell of Sparta, Nelson David Wilkey, Jr. and wife Brandy of  Kodak, Tennessee, Tiffany Smuk and husband Alex of Germany

Grandchildren: Kye Smuk, Ava Dennis, LeeAnn Cantrell, Jasper Young and Derrick Young

Sisters: Hattie Brown, Betty Young and Frances Young

Brother: Joel Young

A host of nieces and nephews also survive

Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with Alice's cremation and graveside services will be conducted after the first of the year.
