Mr. Alston Leon Prater age 67 of Sparta, passed away Friday, July 20, 2023 at his residence.

Alston was born August 30, 1955 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Woodrow Carroll and Christine Waggoner Prater. He was a longtime employee of Martin's Sawmill and later Tri-State Distribution. He was an avid fisherman and loved playing with his dog, Leo.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sister Eva Redmond and brothers Roger and Dean Prater.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Portia Brown Prater

Brothers: Dennis (Rosell) Prater, Lester (Pat) Prater, Ronnie (Doris) Prater, Glen Prater, Stevie (Tammie) Prater

A host of nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Monday, July 24, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Old Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 1:00pm Monday at Hunter Funeral Home. Ronnie Taylor will officiate.
