Alton (Pap) C. Lowery, age 89 passed from this life into his heavenly father's arms on January 26, 2022. Mr. Lowery was a lifelong resident of White County. He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Vernon Howard Lowery of Walling, TN, brothers PFC Willard S. Lowery, Walling, TN and Billy Howard Lowery Sr. of Rossville, GA. Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lou Vernia Powell Lowery, sons, Dennie Lowery (Karen) of Murfreesboro, TN and Stan Lowery (Anne) of Nashville TN, Grandchildren Kayla Lowery, David Austin Lowery (Shelby), Nathan Lowery and Ben Lowery all of Nashville, sister Hazel Lowery Copeland of Sparta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lowery was a 1951 graduate of White County High School, served as Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder of the West Sparta Church of Christ. He also served in the TN Army National Guard's 30 th Armored Division achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and retired from Caney Fork Electric Co-Op after 37 years of service.
Mr. Lowery had a passion for his Lord, his family, his many friends, and gardening. He always enjoyed a good laugh, sharing his lifelong stories and his many adventures across White and neighboring counties. All who experienced life with Alton, Pap, Papaw, Grandpa, Uncle Alton, Co-worker or Friend were tremendously blessed by his loving nature, kind spirit and by watching him live out the ups and downs of life with a great attitude and positive spirit.
Pallbearers will be: Billy H. Lowery Jr., Ronnie Lowery, David Lowery, Terry Copeland, Brent Copeland, David Austin Lowery, Nathan Lowery, Ben Lowery, and Kayla Lowery.
Special thanks to Roy (Nephew) & Shirly Powell, Warren & Beth Kirby, Mike & Kay Prater, Brian & Tammy Pounds, Sharon & Carl Stiglitch – loving friends (considered family) – and a large group of others who lovingly cared for mom and dad - helping them stay in their home these last few years.
In consideration of the health and safety of mom, family and friends - a private family graveside service will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Officiants will be Billy Lowery Jr., Stan Lowery and Derrick Coble.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made for the benefit of Short Mountain Bible Camp via the West Sparta Church of Christ.
