Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Short Hutchings, age 85 of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at NHC of Sparta.  She was born March 25, 1941 in Sparta to the late Ernest and Jennie Lee Goff Short.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Hut" Hutchings and a sister, Peggy Sue Richards.

Mrs. Betty was a seamstress and enjoyed her flower gardens as well as going to the beach.  She was a member of First Community Church. She served as a organist and pianist in the Bon Air Community Churches. She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh that could light up a room and bring a smile to everyone around her. Cake and Chocolate held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughters:  Patty (Dean) Day  and  Lori Livesay & the late James Livesay

Granddaughter:  Kayla (Chuck) Mitchell

Great-Grandsons:  Cade and Colt Mitchell

Niece and Nephew:  Mary Beth (Mike) Laxson and Jason (Carolyn) Richards

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Old Bon Air Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 5pm till 8pm and on Saturday from 9am until service time.  Bro. John Wilson and Richard Goff will officiate the service.
