Mr. Dennis Ray Abney, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, one day shy of his 75th birthday, at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital.

Dennis was born December 15, 1946 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Carl Ray and Jennie Vee Hogan Abney. He was a United States Navy Veteran. He served as a Navy cook and used those talents in the kitchen throughout his life. He spent many years as a cook aboard oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to cooking, he loved wood working and his two German Shepherd dogs.

Survivors include his son Shane Abney and wife Laura

Grandchildren: Carson, Kendall and Chloe Abney

Brothers: Larry Abney and wife Melba, Gene Abney and wife Kay

Cousin: Pam Thorne

Close friends and caregivers: John and Angela Puckett

Funeral services with full military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard will be conducted 4:00pm Monday, December 27, 2021 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. In honor of Dennis's wishes he will be cremated following his funeral.
