Mr. Roy Gaines West, better known as Doc to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Monday morning September 26, 2022 at his home in Sparta at the age of 77.

Doc was born September 17, 1945 to the late James Newton "Jack" and Ida Beatrice Emerton West. He was a former drywall finisher. He loved to play horse shoes, feed the backyard birds that he called "Kitty's birds" and he always liked talking to his friends. He could make you laugh about anything. Doc was an avid fisherman, all he ever talked about was the "the big one that got away." He loved fishing in tournaments with his son JR. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three sisters Susie, Linda and Brenda; two brothers J.L. and Herman; grandson Bradley West.

Two sons: JR (Rashelle) Young of Sparta, Chad (Andrea) West of Shelbyville, TN

Daughters: Tonya (Shannon) Carter, Becky (David) Redmon all of Panama City Beach, Florida, Amanda (Kevin) Stotts of McMinnville, Ruby Tucker and Nita Hugh both of Shelbyville,TN, Lana (David) Crutcher of Belfest, TN

Seventeen grandchildren: Abigail Young aka Partner in Crime, Paige (Trenton) Mooneyham, Shana Carter, Kasy (Greg) Douthit, Kelsey Corbin, Ashley (Jamie) West, Catlyn West, Zach and Jaden Young, Zachary Whited, Gabe and David Redmon, Jr., Nick, Logan and Malaki Ferree, Tintsey Coats and Veleda Crowell

Fourteen great-grandchildren

Siblings: Bo West, Betty Gentry and Judy West

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Friday, September 30, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Friday at Hunter Funeral Home. Dewey Young will officiate. In honor of Doc's wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral.
