Obituary

Mr. Donald Leslie Kissinger better known as Don, age 78 of Walling, passed away unexpectedly at 9:05pm on Friday, May 22, 2026 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital.

Don was born February 5, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to the late Marlin Jay and Mary Arlene June Schreffler Kissinger. He was a retired CPA and served as Controller for several businesses in his career that spanned over 30 years. As a standout football and baseball player in his younger years, he earned a walk-on spot on the University of Maryland baseball team. In his adult years, he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Don was an active member of Gum Springs Baptist Church where he dedicated his heart to disciplining men. His spiritual journey began with the Navigators and continued through the Every Man a Warrior programs. He will be forever remembered for the love he had for his family, especially the ones that knew him as Grampy.

In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by a grandchild, Moses Kissinger and a brother, Leland Kissinger.

Surviving family members include  his wife of nearly 57 years, Regina Kissinger

Three children: Michelle Kissinger-Abbott, Wendy (Thomas) Detwiler and Michael (Michelle) Kissinger

Fourteen grandchildren: Alexandria (Shane) Sniffen, Benjamin (Kalie) Detwiler, Cuyler, Hunter, Joshua and Thomas Detwiler, Isabella, Melina, Michael, Myla, Mirella, Malachi, Myles and Merci Kissinger

5 great-grandchildren: Chara, Archer, Elliana, Bennett and Hannah

Two brothers: Harvey (Susie) Kissinger and Dennis Kissinger

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Friday, May 29, 2026 at Gum Springs Baptist Church with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 9:30am Friday at the church. Bo Hendrix will officiate.

Shane Sniffen, Cuyler Detwiler, Benjamin Detwiler, Michael Kissinger, Ed (Thomas) Detwiler and Dennis Kissinger will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Navigators • PO Box 6000 • Colorado Springs, CO 80934-6000.
