Mrs. Doris Ann Emmitt Adkison, age 72 of Sparta, passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning August 8, 2024 at her residence surrounded by family.

Doris was born on Valentine's Day 1952 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Allen McPhee and Florence Roach Emmitt. She was worked many years for Wal-Mart but her most rewarding career was as a teaching assistant signing for deaf children in the school system. Doris along with her family loved bowling and were active in many bowling leagues. She was a longtime member of Christian Life First Assembly of God. Her greatest joy was being Nana, the icon of her family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Michael Lee Adkison who died December 21, 2022 and brother Tom Emmitt.

Survivors include her children: Mary Knowles, Robert (Christie) Adkison, Paul (Star) Adkison, Michelle (Michael) Bennett, Angela (Steven) Masters

Grandchildren: Austin (Samantha) Sheppard, Shannie Adkison, Jonathan Adkison, Jay Adkison, Hunter Dodson, Jon-Fisher (Victoria) Dodson, Sara Dill, Cassidy Dill, Rhys Bennett and Allie Thacker

Great-granddaughters: Riley Sheppard, Delilah Dodson and Avery Dodson

Two sisters: Christine McQueen and Pat (Terry) Adkison

Two brothers: Bob Emmitt and Mike Emmitt

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Monday, August 12, 2024 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Old Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Monday at Hunter Funeral Home. John Adams will officiate.

Robert Adkison, Paul Adkison, Angela Masters, Mary Knowles, Star Adkison and Christie Adkison will serve as pallbearers.
