Mrs. Doris Nell Phifer Matthews, age 92 of Sparta, passed away at 4:11pm Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mrs. Matthews was born May 19, 1930 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Charlie Lavender & Rosa Pearl Stewart Phifer. She was a former school cafeteria worker but her true joy was the many years she spent as a caregiver. She was an avid gardener and loved feeding the birds in her yard. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husbands T.C. Graham and Bob Matthews; siblings Don Phifer, Marie Phifer and Richmond Phifer.

Surviving family members include her only child Freda Andrews and husband Dale

Grandsons: Stephen Hale and Stacy Gunnels, Greg Hale and wife Stephanie

Great-grandchildren: Ben Hale and Luke Hale

Sister-in-law: Dixie Phifer

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Bransford Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. David Copeland, Bryan Simmons and Paul Allen will officiate.

D.K. Phifer, Steven Seibers, Jody Day, Terry Eller, Dale Andrews and Greg Hale will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Mack Lawson
