Obituary

Edward William Buchwald, Sr., affectionately known as Ed, age 85 of Sparta, passed away on June 11, 2024 at his home.

Ed was born June 30, 1938 -  in the car on the way to the hospital in Buffalo, New York - to the late Edward William and Mary Engel Buchwald. Beginning his life on the road served him for the remainder of his life as he made a career of truck driving. He was a cross-country driver, most notably for Landstar. In retirement, he found joy being on the road in his motorhome alongside his wife and dog, Gretchen. Ed was an avid fisherman, even traveling to Alaska on a fishing trip gifted to him. With a desire to serve his fellow man, Ed served many years in the National Guard and as a longtime volunteer fireman in Depew, New York.  Above all else, his greatest joy was his family who lovingly referred to his as Grandpa or Peeka.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son Thomas Buchwald; sister Mary Burgum and her husband Paul; brother James Buchwald.

Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife Joyce Hancock-Buchwald

Children: Eddie (Donna) Buchwald, Charlene (Cary) Oliver, David (Sherry) Buchwald, Terry (Aubrey) Buchwald, Janet Buchwald, Laurie Davis and Daniel Callen

Daughter-in-law: Linda Lee Buchwald

A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive

In honor of Ed's wishes, he will be cremated his cremated remains will be taken to Thousand Islands, New York
