Gaye Melton Mott

Mrs. Lora Gaye Melton Mott, better known as Gaye, age 69 of Sparta, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, August 7, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Gaye was born August 10, 1956 in Livingston, Tennessee to the late Raleigh Denver and Nina Leola Stover Melton. Gaye was the former owner of Design-a-Frame and Gifts in Sparta. She was a longtime active member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church where she served as church custodian and was instrumental in the Helping Hands Women’s Group. In her spare time, she loved to quilt but most of all, she loved being Granny Gaye to her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Rickey Carl Mott who died June 25, 2018 and brother Robbie Melton.

Surviving family members include her two children and their spouses, Jason and Nora Mott, Danyelle and Greg Hawkins

Grandchildren: Aylah Mott, Ansley Mott, Ethan (Ashley) Guy, Julianne (Austin) Butler, Brayden (Gianna) Hawkins and Brynn (Kade) Sparks

Great grandchildren: Seth Mott, Rheagan Mott, Levi Guy, Barrett Butler and Lane Hawkins

Brothers: Lonnie Melton and Larry Melton

Sisters: Linda Brower, Ila Robbins and Julia Poston

A host of nieces and nephews also survive

The Mott family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home with a private burial in Hickory Valley Cemetery at a later date. Doug Benningfield will officiate.
