Mr. Glenn G. Sims, better known to family and friends as Buckshot, age 72 of Sparta, passed away at 4:50am Friday, June 9, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Glenn Goodwin Sims was born in Sparta, TN on September 5, 1950 to Tom Frank and Emogene Goodwin Sims.

A lifelong resident of Sparta, Glenn graduated from Sparta-White County High School in 1968 where he was a member of the Warrior football and baseball teams. He enjoyed sharing memories of his time wearing maroon and gray and was a proud supporter of the Warriors and Warriorettes.

Glenn married Kimberly Hudgens Sims on November 27, 1981. He was a devoted family man and made his family his top priority. Glenn was the definition of a girl dad and was a wonderful father to his two daughters, April and Erin. His greatest blessings were his four grandchildren: Sydney, Mallory, Margaux, and Winston. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sharing how proud he was of everything his grandbabies achieved.

Glenn served his community for many years through coaching youth sports in White County. More than 40 years of his life were spent sharing his love of baseball and softball and was affectionately known as "Coach Sims". For the last 15 years he spent his time coaching the Warriorettes softball team at WCHS and took great pride in maintaining the softball facility. In 2021 the field he spent countless hours maintaining was named the "Glenn Buckshot Sims Field". Although always a humble man, he was honored to receive this recognition. Over the last 7 years Glenn could be found behind the score table at WCHS basketball games keeping the clock.

Glenn retired from BASF in 2016 after 28 years of employment. Over the course of those years, he built and maintained many friendships that have lasted well into his retirement.

A lifelong and ardent fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and New York Yankees. One of his favorite things to do was attend sporting events with Kim and traveled many miles to support his favorite teams. Aside from coaching sports Glenn enjoyed working crossword puzzles, his nightly popcorn, playing golf, and watching The History Channel if there wasn't a ball game on to enjoy.

Glenn was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his sister Jean Ann Sims Chambers and brother-in-law Bob Chambers and sister-in-law Diane Sadler Hudgens.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Kimberly Hudgens Sims.

Daughters: April Sims Williams and husband, Mickey Williams of Rockvale, TN. Erin Sims Replogle and husband, Jay Replogle of Sparta, TN.

Grandchildren: Sydney Williams, Mallory Williams, Margaux Replogle, and Winston Replogle.

Brothers and Sister: Keith (Freda) Sims of Sparta, TN, Tommy (Jan) Sims of Sparta, TN, Rubye (John) Todd of Murfreesboro, TN.

Father and Mother-in-law: Gene and Elois Hudgens of Sparta, TN.

Brothers-in-law: Bruce Hudgens of Livingston, TN, Mike (Denise) Hudgens of St. Louis, MO, and Fred (Wendy) Hudgens of St. Peters, MO.

A host of nieces, nephews, and friends are also left to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Hickory Valley Baptist Church with burial in Hickory Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home and after 10:00am Monday at the church. Doug Benningfield will officiate.

Bobby Rollins, Jason Wyatt, Bruce Frasier, Terry Crain, Jeff Stewart, Don Kirby, Steve Cayce and Randy Bond will serve the family as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Roberts, Rhonda Girdley, Robert McDonald and Brent Ryan.
