Hollis Ray Miller went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 6 ^th , 2022.  He was born on October 22, 1932, in Van Buren County to Euclid and Edith Miller.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sister Peggy Smith, in-laws Candler and Mary Nell Carter Erwin, and brother in-law Jerry Williams.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ruth Erwin Miller; his daughters Joyce (Mike) Floyd and Laura Miller; grandchildren Justin Whittenburg, Cody Whittenburg, Annmarie (Michael) Joyce, Collin (Chase) Floyd and Evan Floyd; great grandchildren Tristen and Alyssa Whittenburg, Molly and Natalie Whittenburg, Ansley Joyce, Owen and Elliot Floyd; brothers Willie Ray (Janice) and Jimmy (Reba), sisters Katherine Williams and Betty (Hugh) Turner, Aunt Minnie Miller Cantrell; and many nieces and nephews.

What a surprise to his parents that the birth on October 22, 1932, was not one baby but two identical twin boys. They had much fun in life pretending to be each other and many times they just let the person think they were the other twin.

Hollis enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1952. During the Korean War he was stationed in California aboard the USS General H W Butner and later the USS Virgo along with his twin brother Willie Ray.  He received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, The Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and 3 battle stars.

He was discharged in May 1956 and married Mary Ruth Erwin on July 28, 1956.

He went to work for Sam Agee, Agee Oil Company in 1956, who he always said was the best employer anyone could have.  Later he worked for Spartan Industries and Sutton Shirt Corporation as a truck driver.  He took a break from truck driving to become co-owner of Black Oak Charolais with lifelong friend Harold Evans.  Later he went back to driving for Averitt Express until he retired.

He always loved his side job of farm work and raising cattle.  After retirement he continued full time farming for his own farm and working for Eddie Gentry, his very special friend.

His life changed on November 17, 2015, when he suffered a stroke while doing what he loved – outside working on a farm.  God blessed him and his family with many additional years after his stroke.

Hollis was a 32 ^nd degree Mason.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.  He loved the Lord, his family, farming, and his many friends – local and those he made while driving a truck who still came to visit and check on him.

In honor of Hollis' wishes, a private burial was conducted at 9:00am Monday, March 7, 2022 at Highland Cemetery. A public Memorial Service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Sparta, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends after 11:00am Saturday at the church.
