Jackie (Jack) Leon Underwood, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2026, in Sparta, Tennessee. Born on November 15, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jack lived a life filled with faith, family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Jack grew up in West Virginia, where he graduated high school before embarking on a career that would span over three decades. He honed his skills through the Ford apprenticeship program at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. Jack dedicated more than 32 years to the Ford Motor Company at the Wixom Assembly Plant in Michigan. He retired in 1998, as a Journeyman Millwright. His work ethic and dedication were hallmarks of his professional life.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mickey of over 60 years. Together they built a loving family that includes their daughter Sherri Hutchings (Jerry) of Sparta, Tennessee; their son Bryan Underwood (Jennifer) of Livonia, Michigan; and their cherished grandchildren Nicole Hutchings; Gabrielle Austin (Houston) of Sparta; and Rebecca Stinson (James) of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Jack also took immense pride in his great-grandchildren: Ciara (Shea (Logan Dyer)) Hawkins, Jesse Stinson, Melea (Jayde) Hawkins, Wyatt Stinson, Joy Stinson, Emma Austin, and Isaiah Stinson.

Preceding Jack in death, his parents, Victor and Clara Underwood; his sister Loretta Rush (Clyde); and 6 brothers; William Underwood (Nellie), Victor Underwood (Marie), John Underwood, Howard Underwood (Ruth), James Underwood (Elizabeth), and Rodger Underwood (Diana). Their memories remained close to Jack's heart throughout his life.

Jack had a profound love for nature and found solace in deer hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite fishing spots included Lakes Saint Clair, Michigan, Huron, and Erie. He especially enjoyed pursuing musky, walleye, and salmon during these peaceful moments outdoors.

A man of deep faith, Jack loved the Lord and embraced Him as his personal Savior. For over 20 years, he was an active member of Pistole Baptist Church. Known as the "first-face" many encountered at church services due to his role as a greeter, Jack also participated enthusiastically in church events such as fish fries and outreach programs. He treasured the fellowship he shared with his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Jack's warmth and ability to connect with others were among his most remarkable qualities. Friends often joked that he "never met a stranger," a sentiment that perfectly captured his genuine kindness and welcoming spirit. Whether spending time with family or engaging with friends new or old, Jack left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

More than anything else, Jack loved God and cherished his family deeply. Always remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, provider, and friend whose legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Jack's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched during his journey on this earth. May those who mourn him find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with the Lord he so faithfully served. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Friday May 22, 2026, at Pistole Baptist Church, 1501 Pistole Road, Sparta, TN 38583. Internment will follow in Plainview Cemetery, 685 Will Thompson Road, Sparta, TN 38583. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Thursday and again after 11:00am Friday at the church. Pastor Harlen Simmons and Pastor Clint Walker will officiate.

Bryan Underwood, Howard Underwood, Jerry Hutchings, Jerry Pryor, John Pittman and Stanton Nash will serve as pallbearers.
