Mr. James Edwin Gwynn, affectionately known as "Knobby," age 84 of Sparta, passed away at 10:59pm Sunday, August 29, 2021 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Knobby was born October 21, 1936 to the late Martha James Officer Gwynn and Roy Gwynn. He graduated from Austin High School in Knoxville, TN. He joined the United States Air Force in 1954 and retired in 1974. Knobby attended and received degrees from Florida Key Community College, The University of West Florida, and Tennessee Technological University. He was also a member of Post 99 of the American Legion in Sparta.

Knobby loved finding facts of the past. He spent a lot of time looking up and documenting the histories of many families, towns and graveyards. He was a good man and always willing to help with a good cause. Knobby will be missed by White County/Sparta, TN. He was admired and respected by a great number of friends, acquaintances, and family. He kept and maintained a certain quiet, subtle, loyal, independent charm about himself. To have known Knobby is a cherished memory.

2 Grandchildren: Keyotta Gwynn of Sparta, Joseph Gwynn & Ashley of Murfreesboro, TN

2 Great-grandchildren: Chandrah Waters, Davion Baird both of Sparta

Special Friend Tom Prime, Loving Neighbor Pam Lewis and many more friends too numerous to name.

Knobby will be truly missed in the hearts of Lynn & Mike Cummings of Viola, TN

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Lee Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
