James Darrell Mabe Sr., age 63 of Rock Island, Tennessee, passed away at 9:41am Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville, Tennessee.
James was born August 29, 1961 to the late James William Mabe and Carolyn Faye Jones.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wallace and Virgie Moore Davis and Lela Mabe Hillis, brother, Richard Allen Mabe, in-laws, Fred and Emogene Wilson Green, stepmother, Irene Cunningham Mabe, brother-in-law's, Jeffery, David, and Johnny Green, and James and Arthur Young.
James is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sonya (Sandy) Green Mabe of Rock Island, son, James Darrell Mabe Jr. (Darren) of Rock Island, daughter, Nikia (Eric) Mabe of Rock Island, grandsons, Zarek Ward and Eli Mabe of McMinnville, Jacob Garza of Rock Island, and granddaughter, Rylie Mabe of McMinnville, step parents Charlie and Linda Jones of Doyle, brothers, Jimmy and Harold (Jo) Mabe of McMinnville, sister-in-law's, Kathy and Teresa Young, Phyllis ( Jason) Holcomb of Sparta, Bridget Brock of Smithville, special uncle Roy (Georgia) Mabe of McMinnville, a very special niece, who he named, Stephanie Harris Stafford of Sparta, a long time friend, Kevin Harris, of Sparta, and neighbors, Barry (Joyce) and Cody Nabors of Rock Island who bring a special meaning to the word neighbor.
James was a nursery worker and long-haul truck driver with Maverick Trucking. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch talking with friends and family or people passing by. No one was a stranger.James loved life and the people he shared it with. James loved his family but his grandchildren were his joy. Most of all James loved God and the teachings of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. This led him to the 2021 camp meeting where he got to praise God along side Mr. Swaggart. His love for the Lord carried him through his life and into his eternal home of Glory.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, March 23, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Rick Lyles and Nathan Hawkins will officiate.
Kevin Harris, Charlie Jones, Zarek Ward, Eli Mabe, Cody Nabors, and Barry Nabors will serve the family as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Garza and Jason Holcomb
