James "Jim" Cornelius Young, 72, passed away after a long illness on October 1, 2023, in Sparta, TN.

Jim was born in Sparta, TN, to John C and Nancy Mae (Knowles) Young on April 13, 1951. He served in the Army as a Military Policeman in Vietnam from 1970-1972. He worked in the tire industry in Akron, OH, and the HVAC industry in Cookeville, TN, until he gladly retired.

In his youth, Jim loved to play baseball. He remained an avid sports fan though he traded his bat for puns when he had children. He was a devoted family man; his proudest roles were those of a father and grandfather though his heart had plenty of space for everyone in his large family. He enjoyed tending to his garden and making a kick-a** muscadine wine. While his wine will be missed at family celebrations, his smiling face and razor wit will be missed every day.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John C and Nancy Mae (Knowles) Young; his brothers, Barney, Bobby, Donal, Raymond, and Charles Young; and his sisters, Vera England and Louise Koneda.

Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Young; his daughters, Cara (Matt) Young-Martin, Halee (Brandon) Roberts; his two grandchildren, Zoy and Zetta; and his sisters, Mary Young and Ellnora Gray.
