James Steven Young, Jr., age 56 of Sparta, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025 at his residence.
James was born St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1969 in Sparta, Tennessee to Kathy Green Young and the late James Steven (Steve) Young, Sr. James worked a variety of jobs including as a supervisor at Sparta Steel and operated his own lawn care business for a while. James had a big heart and loved everyone for who they were. He never met a stranger, put others before himself and was always first to lend a helping hand. James loved going to church, playing softball and basketball in his younger years and collecting sports cards. He loved spending time with his family whether he was fishing with his dad and sister or at family cookouts, Thanksgiving and Christmas or the combined birthday parties with his uncle and since the age of 6 his sister. He was most known for his love of football and especially since the 4th grade, his love for the Dallas Cowboys. He always looked forward to Thanksgiving and tradition of being able to watch the Cowboys play. He favorite car was a red Chevy Nova and he loved Ford trucks.
In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his younger brother, Freddie Shane Young; first wife Lori Clouse Young; grandparents, Fred and Emogene Green, James Arthur Young and Merkey Holman along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
James is survived by his wife Jessica Young

Children: Shelbi (Adam) Huddleston, Nickole (Stephen) Farley and Michael Van Hoosier
Grandchildren: Landan, Mason, Ellie, Elliott, Emilia, Bradley, Anthony, Kody and Connor
Sisters: Melanie (Mary) Wright and Kathy Michelle Qualls
Several loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins
Special friends: Richard Robbins, Chubby and Tina
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Luke Hobbs will officiate. Friends are encouraged to honor James by wearing any Dallas Cowboys clothing to his services.
Bobby Wright, Jr., Justin Wright, Michael Van Hoosier, Logan Brown, Malachi Brown and Arian Qualls will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Richard Robbins.
