Mr. Jerry Wayne Simmons, age 81, a longtime familiar face at Floyd's Cash Saver, passed away at 12:55pm Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Jerry Wayne was born September 5, 1940 in Doyle, Tennessee to the late Jerry Scott and Ollie Henderson Simmons. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Wilma Jean Usrey Simmons who died January 21, 2015.

He loved his family, church and work. He was a member of Doyle First Baptist Church. Jerry Wayne had been a butcher for 59 years. He spent his early career at Taylor's Superette, then Tommy Denton's. The last 33 years was for Floyd's Cash Saver. He absolutely loved that store, owners, employees and most of all his customers. In his spare time, he loved being on his farm.

Surviving family members include his daughter Shari Baker and husband Rodney

Brother: Scott Simmons and wife Mary

Nieces and nephew:Vickie DeLeon and husband Tony, Allison Miller, Steve Phillips and wife Jamie

Several great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, February 24, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Tim Judd will officiate.

Hunter Baker, Darrell Cotter, Sam Neely, Tory Neely, Alex Cotter, Brandon Weidner, Zack Sullivan and Dalton Sullivan will serve the family as pallbearers. C.B. Sullivan, Jr. will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
