Dr. Joseph Thomas Judd, PhD, age 88 of New Bern, N.C., passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 in North Carolina.

Joseph was born on April 22, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Ernest Judd and Josie Green Judd.

He graduated from North Carolina State University in January 1963. He obtained a doctorate of Philosophy and Animal Sciences. During his career he became the Lab Chief of the Human Nutrition Research Center for the USDA in Beltsville, MD. One of his studies had researchers look at the effects of butter and two margarines on blood lipids of 46 volunteers in a 15 week study. He was a great gardener and some of his passions were growing iris and fresh vegetables.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Norma, son Jonathan LaFever Judd, daughter Suzanne Nichole Williams, and son John Lee Williams, as well as, their adored pet Bischon Ace.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his late wife Betty Ruth LaFever Judd, son Benjamin Ernest Judd, sisters Earnestine Allen and MaryAnn Campbell and a brother Eugene Harold Judd.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Old New Hope Baptist Church with burial to follow in Old New Hope Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Doug Benningfield will officiate.
