Mrs. Katherine Gay Miller Williams, age 93 of Sparta, formerly of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Williams was born February 23, 1931 in Doyle, Tennessee to the late Euclid and Edith Betty Jean Miller. She was a homemaker and an active member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church. She participated in the church's Helping Hands program as long as her health allowed. In her Chapel Hill years, she volunteered her time at the UNC Chapel Hill Hospital Heart Clinic. Alongside her daughter, she participated in many heart walks as well. Her take-charge spirit was evident as she served as the Chairman of her Homeowners Association in Chapel Hill. Her spare time was spent studying genealogy, and visiting with friends and neighbors at her Life Care home where she never missed Bingo. Above all else, her favorite time spent was being Grandma, and later GiGi, to her family and church family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Jerry Wayne Williams; infant grandson Sean Michael Smith, great-grandson Logan Smith; sister Peggy Smith and brother Hollis Miller.

Five grandchildren: Robert (Renee) Smith, Christy (David) Garrison, Micah (Allison) Willliams, Tara (Mark) Benson and Julian Williams

Sister-in-law: Mary Ruth Miller

Aunt: Minnie Cantrell

A host of nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Hickory Valley Baptist Church with burial in Old Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 1:00pm Thursday at the church. Doug Benningfield will officiate.

David Roberts, Jason Miller, Stacey Turner, Mike Floyd, James Douglas, Micah Williams, Jason Mott, Jimmy Moss and Tanner Green will serve the family as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Hickory Valley Baptist Church
