Kim Swindell Wood

Kimberly Laurel Swindell Wood, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on December 5, 1955, in the close-knit community of Sparta, Tennessee, Kim lived a life enriched by laughter, love, and service to others.

Kim was the cherished daughter of the late Tom and Treva Swindell, who instilled in her a deep sense of integrity and kindness that she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Woody Phillips, and her beloved granddaughter, Kathryn Fairman.

She is survived by her loving children, Jarrod Conner and Meredith Daoud, who were the center of her world, and her grandchild Jeremiah Daoud. Kim also leaves behind her dear siblings, Donna Cavanah, Tommy Kay Officer, and Derian Wassom, with whom she shared countless memories and a deep familial bond.

Kim's professional journey was as vibrant and varied as her personality. She began her career at the White County Jail, where she worked for many years, but her true passion was realized when she became a radio personality at WSMT radio station in Sparta. With her infectious smile and warm voice, she became a beloved figure in the local community. Her love for media led her to become editor of The Expositor, the newspaper of White County, where she met countless individuals, each leaving an indelible mark on her heart. Kim's signature motto, "Smile!" was more than just a word; it was a reflection of her approach to life and her gift to everyone she encountered.

Kim's legacy is one of compassion, humor, and an unwavering dedication to those she loved. Her ability to connect with others, whether through the airwaves or the written word, left a lasting impact on her community. Her family invites those who wish to honor her memory to make a donation to Warrior Media at White County High School, reflecting Kim's generous spirit and love for giving back.

The family and friends of Kimberly Laurel Swindell Wood will forever hold her in their hearts, cherishing the beautiful memories and the profound love she shared with all. Services will be conducted 1pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11am Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home.
