Laura Lee Nelson, 48, of Quebeck, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at Cookeville Regional Hospital on October 31, 2025 — a date she surely chose herself, given her lifelong love of Halloween.

Born on September 18, 1977, Laura was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Lou and Joe M. Duke. She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, Ken and Faye Nelson, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms.

Laura is survived by her loving husband, Kemith Nelson, and her most treasured blessing, her son Grayson Nelson. She also leaves behind her brothers Lyndell (Sonya) Duke and Billy (Talonna) Duke, and her sister Cindy (Billy) Thomas. Her life was made even richer by her nephews Derrek (Adriane) Parrish, Jacob (Jennifer) Duke, Daniel (Tambra) Duke, Josh (Heather) Thomas, Joseph (Porsche) Thomas, Jonah Duke, and her nieces Amanda (Casey) Prater and Lizzie Webb. She also adored a host of great-nieces and nephews, loving each of them as if they were her own.

As the baby of the family — arriving a full ten years after her older siblings — Laura was loved beyond measure by them all. She was the quiet balance to their chaos, never one to demand the spotlight or have the last word. Instead, she spent her life making sure everyone else was cared for, comfortable, and loved. She often joked that she couldn't wait to tell her mom how her siblings used to pick on her, though they all agreed she was so well-behaved as a child that she never got in trouble anyway.

Laura courageously fought glioblastoma (brain cancer) for two years with the same humor, strength, and grace that defined her entire life. Even in her hardest moments, she faced each day with faith, compassion, and that steady kindness that made everyone around her feel safe and loved.

She had a servant's heart, spending much of her life caring for others—family, friends, and often anyone lucky enough to cross her path. She never met a stranger, could make anyone laugh, and had the kind of gentle wit that warmed every room. Music was her constant companion—whether it was Chris Stapleton, praise and worship songs, or anything with a good beat, you could bet she was singing and dancing along.

Laura also loved to travel and treasured every adventure she shared with her sister Cindy and niece Mandy. Whether it was a short getaway or a long road trip, the three of them always found laughter, memories, and probably a few inside jokes along the way.

Her circle of friendship was deep and loyal, including her dearest friends April Millrany, Natalie Dodson, Dondra Phillips, and Cindy Woody—her chosen sisters who shared her laughter, love, and countless memories.

Laura's timing was impeccable in life and in passing—ever the one for a memorable exit, she chose Halloween, one of her favorite days, to be reunited with her parents.

Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00pm Tuesday, November 4, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Anderson Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Sam Davis will officiate.

Daniel Duke, Jacob Duke, Joseph Thomas, Josh Thomas, Jonah Duke and Lucas West will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pall bearer will be Derrek Parrish
