Mrs. Leona Sherrill, age 89 of Sparta, passed away on Monday morning, February 28, 2022 at NHC Healthcare Sparta.

Mrs. Sherrill was born on January 17, 1933 in Celina, Tennessee to the late Ashel and Martha Boles Emerton. Leona was retired from Catoosa Knitting Mill in Crossville, Tennessee. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting, and working in her flowers. Leona also enjoyed cooking, especially during the holidays. Everyone loved her chicken and dumplings and fried apple pies. Although she never had children of her own, Leona was like a second mother to some of her nieces and nephew after her sister Donna passed away. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, one-of-a-kind lady who will be greatly missed by those who love her.

In addition to her parents, Leona is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Sherrill; brothers Cherry Emerton and Jerry Emerton; and sister Donna Parks.

Leona is lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews to whom she was very close:

Graveside Services will be conducted 1pm Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home from 11:00-12:45pm on Thursday.

Bill Lance, Dave Caldwell, Joseph Johnson and Donnie Qualls will serve the family as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank NHC of Sparta for all of the compassion and care given to Leona
