Obituary

Mr. Lonnie Clifford Slatton, age 89 of Quebeck, TN left this world behind Friday morning, August 15, 2025 at the Life Care Center of Sparta.  He was born March 30, 1936 in Van Buren County to Houston and Eva McCoy Slatton. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Valerie Hawkins, brother Gerald, and his sister Zelmadeane Collier.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years and the love of his life, Betty Slatton. He will always be in her heart. Survivors also include son-in-law Micheal Hawkins, nieces Bobbie Deane (Ronnie) Bouldin, and Bonita Vann along with many great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alyson Jones for making his last two months brighter.

Lonnie was a former Van Buren County High basketball player and later served as a department manager at Genesco for 36 years. He was an avid Lady VOLS fan! He rarely missed a game! In his younger years, he spent time hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Horseshoes in the backyard and farming brought him great joy. His greatest joy, though, was his daughter Valerie. Theirs was a special bond. Lonnie was a songbird and loved singing to the Lord. He lead church singing for over 50 years, most recently at Quebeck Church of Christ. His love of the Lord was evident. Thank you to all who showed him love during his life with special thanks to nieces Penny and Angie.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life Tuesday, August 19th, at Hunter Funeral Home beginning at 11:00. The funeral service will follow at 1:00. Speakers are RC Christian and Doug Goff with song leader, Don Shuster.
Graveside service will follow at Jericho Cemetery. Dan Horton will be the speaker.

Pall Bearers include Ricky Dildine, Brandon Vann, Jimmy Seamons, A.J. King, Darin Horton and Max Slatton.

Goodnight Lonnie. We love you!
