Obituary

Lucy Custer, a beacon of love, compassion, and unyielding spirit, passed away due to respiratory infection. Born on September 13, 1931, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky, Lucy entered this world surrounded by the love of her parents, Oliver and Helen Cumpston, who preceded her in death. Their values and nurturing spirit laid the foundation for the remarkable woman Lucy grew to be.

Lucy was the proud daughter of Catlettsburg, where she completed her early education. She graduated from Boyd County High School and went on to achieve a significant milestone as the first in her family to attend college. Earning a scholarship, she pursued her passion for helping others and became a registered nurse. Her career as a RN was marked by tireless dedication and an unwavering commitment to care for those in need.

In her personal life, Lucy found love and companionship with Agustus (Bud) Kasper. Their partnership spanned over 35 years and was filled with cherished adventures, from camping trips, European travels to unforgettable cruises. Together, they created a life rich with love, respect, and joy, often sharing their happiness with family and friends through countless gatherings and celebrations.

Lucy was a devoted mother to her daughter Pamela Farris and Mark Custer and took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to her three grandchildren: Christopher Farris, Madison Farris Williams, and James Oathout. Her legacy of love continues through her great-grandchildren, Chelsra Oathout, Nathan Oathout, including the spirited Delilah Wolf. Lucy’s family was at the heart of everything she did, and her kindness extended beyond blood relations, touching the lives of many she considered family.

Her generous spirit knew no bounds. Lucy was always ready to lend a helping hand, relocating without hesitation to support her sisters during times of illness. Her compassion and selflessness left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Lucy’s interest were as vibrant as he personality. An avid reader, she found solace and joy in books, often losing herself in stories for hours on end. Alongside Bud, she embraced life to its fullest, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.

Family, friends, and all who were touched by Lucy’s warmth are invited to celebrate her life on at 12:00 noon on October 27, 2026, at Hunter Funeral Home, located at 120 E. Bockman Way Sparta,TN 38583. The Tennessee Nurses Honor Guard will serve Lucy's family.

Lucy Custer’s legacy is one of love, service, and an open heart. Her gentle soul will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the stories she leaves behind.
