Mrs. Margaret Stewart Anderton, age 95 of Sparta, passed away at 1:17pm Monday, March 24, 2025 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Margaret was born November 18, 1929 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Claude and Sula Howard Stewart. After a few years at Commerce Union Bank on the Square in Sparta, Margaret returned to school at Tennessee Tech earning her bachelors degree. Alongside her late husband, she owned and operated a dry cleaning store before ultimately becoming the accountant for the Edd Rogers dealership. Margaret proudly held that position for nearly 50 years. Her amazing retention of information and knowledge of numbers allowed her to continue to work as recently as a few weeks ago. As a champion Bridge player, she was a regular competitor in Crossville and at state competitions in East Tennessee, as well as her regular game in Sparta with friends. She enjoyed traveling but was always happy to return home in her beloved city of Sparta.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Drake Anderton; sister, Twila Stewart Stein and brother Thomas Howard Stewart.

Goddaughter: Amy Pierce and husband Kenny of Hohenwald, TN

Adopted family: Eddie and Elaine Rogers and their family

The Anderton family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with Margaret's cremation and a memorial service will be conducted 3:00pm Friday, April 4, 2025 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after 1:00pm Friday at Hunter Funeral Home. Robert Neal Burton and Eddie Rogers will officiate.
