Mrs. M. Marie Young, age 85, of Sparta, TN, passed from this life in her home on February 27th 2026.

Mrs. Young was born on October 4th 1940 in White County, TN, to her late parents Joseph Herbert Winnett and Essie Jewel Burgess Winnett. She spent her life pouring her energy into her home and the people she loved. She enjoyed tending her garden, filling her shelves with canned goods each season, and settling into a rocking chair on the front porch with her beloved husband, Doug, whom she loved for more than fifty years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Alan Young; her sisters, Wanda Stedry and Joyce Guinn; and her brother, Carless Winnett.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Young was survived by her husband, Douglas Brown Young; her daughter, Janet Gentry (Chris) Farley; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is also survived by her chosen granddaughter, Kelly (Brad) Johnson, who was family to her through love, not blood. Grandchildren, Lindsay Farley Madewell and Tyler Farley.

A joint funeral service with her husband Doug, who died on March 2, 2026 will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, March 5, 2026 in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00pm Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. John Murphy and Eugene Lawson will officiate.

Janet Farley, Christy Stedry, Pete Frady, Jason Young, Kenneth "Jap" Young and Roger Young will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers hers will be a donation in her honor to Alzheimer's Tennessee
