Mr. Marshall Hall Underwood, Jr. better known as Bill, age 91 of Sparta passed away Monday September 26, 2022 at Hospice of Chattanooga.

Bill was born October 3, 1930 in Wilder, Tennessee to the late Marshall Hall & Vernia Mae Robinson Underwood. He retired as a Command Sgt. Major for the U.S. Army after 25 years of service. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife Mari-Ellen McCabe Underwood; daughter Connie; son Robert; brothers James (Marylou), Thurman (Helen), Harold Underwood; sisters Muriel (Clyde) Blaylock, Mildred Underwood; brothers-in-law Ron Savage and John Cunningham.

Survivors include his son James Underwood

Two daughters: Debra Howard and Marsha (Ken) Mechtley

Sisters: Mary Elizabeth Savage and Helen Cunningham

Sister-in-law: Vickie Underwood

A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Doyle Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home.
