Mrs. Mary Ellen Cunningham Davis, a native of Sparta, formerly of Chattanooga, left this world suddenly on April 21, 2022.

Born on April 9, 1938 in Sparta, Mary was the last of the thirteen children born to Merrell Thomas and Belle Zora Young Cunningham. She worked in many of the factories in the Sparta area before moving to Florida in 1965. In addition to working with her brother in Florida, she also worked in electronics and several aspects of food service.

Mary loved the outdoors where she enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in her garden. She loved to go on rides where she would sing with the radio. She enjoyed making her family laugh with her dancing and making faces while posing for pictures. She always wanted to be helpful and enjoyed cooking. In her later years, her joy for cooking resulted in many burnt meals and two visits in a week by the fire department where they requested that she discontinue cooking.

Mary was loved and will be missed by many. She will always be remembered as a caring mother, grandmother and friend.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Davis; son, Scott Miller; son-in-law Buddy Varnadore and her twelve siblings.

Surviving family members include her son Charles (Deana) Miller

Daughters: Helen Varnadore, Shirley (Clif) Gill, Michelle Tindall

Grandchildren: Joey (Julie) Varnadore, Darrel (Tiffany) Douglas, Melissa Parks, Amy (Kenny) Sample, Dalton Drawdy

Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Buster Young will officiate.

Charles Miller, Darrel Douglas, Dustin Douglas, Waylen Osborne, Dalton Drawdy and Daniel Parks will serve as pallbearers.
