Mrs. Mary Jane Horan Gooch, age 89 of Sparta, passed away at 10:50am Friday, June 24, 2022 at her residence.

Mrs. Gooch was born October 21, 1932 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Joseph Watrace & Willie Cliff Thomas Horan. She was a homemaker but also had a career as a medical technician and did some bookkeeping. She was an active member of Sparta First United Methodist Church where she served as a communion steward. She loved children and was a substitute teacher for the church Playschool program. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother William Joseph Horan.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years Richard Gooch

Daughter: Miriam Gooch Anslinger and husband Steve

Son: Roy W. Gooch and wife Amy

Grandchildren: Mason Hollis Gooch, Reagan Michelle Gooch and Will Hampton Gooch

Several nieces and nephews also survive

The Gooch family has entrusted Hunter Funeral Home with Mary Jane's cremation and memorial services will be conducted 2:00pm Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Sparta First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after noon Tuesday at the church. Ken Wallace will officiate.
