Mary Elizabeth Underwood Savage, 84, passed away October 4, 2023 in Hermitage Tennessee of Alzheimer's disease. She was born on February 28, 1939 in Doyle, Tennessee to the late Marshall Hall and Verna Robinson Underwood, Sr.

Mary was a hair stylist for 15 years before becoming a check proofreader for John H. Harland Co in Lavergne and retiring from there at age 65. She married the love of her life, Jasper Ronald Savage on May 18, 1957 and had two beautiful children. She lost Ron on January 14, 2020 after 62 years of marriage. She and Ron traveled throughout the country even visiting Hawaii and wanting to move there but...was too expensive and too far away from her...ahem children..

Mary sang in her church choir when she was very young and four of them were asked to sing on WSMT radio and later in life she was a beloved member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Beech Grove Tennessee.

In addition to her parents and Ron, she is also preceded in death by her son-in-law Philip Watson who died, March 13, 2023 and other very well loved family members.

Daughter: Melissa A. Savage (Max) Mackney of Murfreesboro, TN

Granddaughter: Brittany N.  (Jeremiah)  Anderson  of Columbia, TN and her children Britt, JJ and Dawson

Granddaughter: Elizabeth (Brandon) Merritt of Washington and her children Leon and Kai

Sister: Helen Cunningham of Crossville, TN

Sister-in-law: Vicki Underwood of Indianapolis, IN

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, October 7, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Doyle Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10:00am Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Elbert Smith will officiate.
