Nancy Officer Hancock

Nancy Collene Officer Hancock, age 84 of Sparta, passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Nancy was born April 3, 1942 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Robert and Leona Lusk Officer. She earned her Masters Degree in Education from Tennessee State University. Over her 36-year career in Elementary Special Education, Nancy taught in Memphis for a year, 25 years in Nashville and 10 years in Detroit, Michigan. As a Church of Christ member, she attended Oakwood Street Church of Christ. Nancy will be fondly remembered for the conversations she enjoyed on the telephone with those she loved.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Wiley Virgil Hancock who died April 28, 2015.

Funeral services will be conducted 12pm Saturday, August 29, 2026 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:30-7pm Friday at Hunter Funeral Home and after 10am on Saturday.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Life Care and Gentiva Hospice, as well as her church family at Oakwood Street Church of Christ.
