Mrs. Nina Mae Cope Griffin, age 87 of Sparta, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the residence of her daughter.

Nina was born March 23, 1936 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Ermon and Essie Irene Shaw Cope. She had a few jobs but she will be mostly fondly remembered for her time in the Meat Department of Foodland in Sparta. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning from her garden. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Curtis Hill Griffin who died January 24, 2017; siblings Ernestine Slatten, Bobbie Jean Davis, William Royce Cope, James Glenn Cope, infant brother Charles Douglas Cope and son-in-law Lloyd Watts.

Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sherry Griffin Watts of Mt. Juliet

Son: Scott Douglas Griffin of Sparta

Granddaughter: Jennifer Rebecca Watts and Joshua Parrott

Grandson: Curtis Lee (Bashi) Griffin

Sisters: Ruth Anderson and Brenda Frasier

Several nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, September 10, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Old Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 12:00pm Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home. James Dukes will officiate.

Johnny Denton, Steven Denton, Joseph Underwood, Rhett Underwood, David Griffin and Jonathon Griffin will serve the family was pallbearers.
