Mr. Morton Ray Smith, better known to all that knew him as Ray, age 62 of Sparta, passed away at 11:16am on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Ray was born May 14, 1964 in Seymour, Texas to the late Benny Ray and Virginia Faye Hudgens Smith. Ray was a former tractor mechanic. He will be fondly remembered for being a Jack of All Trades and helping anyone that needed mechanic or carpentry help. He enjoyed paracord and has made many bracelets and he loved to make birdhouses and cheer on the Dallas Cowboys.

Surviving family members include his wife Kandy Rogers Smith

Children: Christopher Ryan Smith, Michael Ray (April) Smith, Curtis Jay Smith, Natasha Smith, William Carter Smith, Garrett Clayton Smith, Meaghan Reanee Smith, Candice Kelley, Laney Hokit and Bobby Joe

Grandchildren: Jessica Arter, Katelynn Douglas, James Ray Smith, Carson Cole Smith, Izaya Ryan Spivey, Alexis Danielle Smith, Christopher Ryan Smith, Jr., Daxton Caleb Henry, Danielle Grace Henry, Zackry Matthew Henry, Kayden Lack, Brayden Lack, Xayden Lack and Beth-ann Lack

Siblings: Robert King, Richie King, Sherry King and Cheryl Kerivan

Several nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Sunday, July 19, 2026 at the Ravenscroft Church of God. The family will begin visitation at 4:00pm Friday at the church. Ralph Reagan will officiate.

Michael Ray Smith, Curtis Jay Smith, William Carter Smith, Garrett Clayton Smith, Renzell Shakeem Ford, Willie Frank Rogers, Jr., Coby Rogers and Caleb Rogers will serve as pallbearers.
