Rosemary "Romy" Ellis Mayberry
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosemary "Romy" Ellis
Mayberry, age 95, who left us on October 25, 2024 in Knoxville, TN.
Rosemary was born on July 16, 1929, in Cookeville, TN to Verdi and
Lilian Cooper Ellis.
Romy was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother, and friend. She was a graduate of White County High
School in Sparta TN and had an undergraduate degree in elementary
education from the University of Tennessee and was a lifelong member
of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. UT is where she met the love of her life, Joe
Mayberry. They were married for 34 wonderful years until his passing
in 1985. Romy taught first grade for a few years and ended her
teaching career to raise her family which she adored. She was also an
accomplished equestrian where she won hundreds of ribbons, medals,
and trophies throughout the Southeast. Romy dedicated her life to her
husband and raising her children where her love and commitment were
evident in everything she did.
She is survived by her two sons Mark (Cathey) Mayberry and Chris
(Nelda) Mayberry of Knoxville. She was the proud grandmother of
Christen (Michael) Osborne of Columbus, Ohio, Jessica (Michael) Zinke
of Lenexa, KS, and Nicole (Sean) O'Donnell of Atlanta, GA. She was the
very proud great-grandmother of Leighton Rose, and Gracie Elizabeth
Osborne, Camryn Lane, and Delaney Claire O'Donnell. Also survived by
niece, Tommy Sue Mayberry Garret and virtual family friend, Mary
Workman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Stanton Mayberry of
Sparta, TN.and also by Dr. Richard Workman her loving companion of many years.
Romy will be deeply missed but her memory will live on in the hearts of
those she touched.
Rest in peace, Romy. Your love and wisdom will guide us always.
Family request donations be made to Highland Cemetery %Hunter Funeral Home, in her memory.
Private Family burial will take place later at Highland Cemetery
