Mr. Thomas Everett Rowland, Jr, better known as Tom, age 94 of Sparta, passed away at 2:30am Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Tom was born June 3, 1928 in Walling, Tennessee to the late Thomas Everett & Ida Lilly Shuster Rowland. He was the retired owner of his family's business, Rowland's Lumber Company in Quebeck, Tennessee. Tom was a 1946 graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy and had a brief time at Middle Tennessee State University before ultimately returning to his passion in life, the sawmill, to work alongside his father, Everett and brother Theron.

In addition to his parents, Tom is also preceded in death by his wife Doris Little Rowland who died October 4, 1990; son Thomas Everett "Turtle" Rowland, III and his wife Cathy Cantrell Rowland; sister Ruby Rowland Carver and her husband Clifford Boyd Carver; brother Theron Rowland and wife Mary Lee Rowland.

Survivors include his son Joe Boyd Rowland of Nashville

Two grandsons: Thomas Everett "Rett" Rowland, IV and wife Shayna of Sparta, Mason Boyd Rowland of Memphis, TN

Two great-grandchildren: Lyla Rowland and Gage Rowland

Niece: Faye Carver Wallace

In honor of Tom's wishes, he will be cremated and a visitation with friends will be conducted Friday, April 14, 2023 from 2:00-5:00pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Tom's ashes will be interred in Highland Cemetery in a private family ceremony at a later date.

The Rowland family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care Tom received for 7 years at Life Care Center of Sparta and his recent stay at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital.
