Mr. Walter Lex Herron, Jr., affectionately known as Walt or PeeWee, age 80 of Doyle, Tennessee passed away at 12:15am on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Nashville VA Hospital with his family by his side.
Walt was born February 2, 1945 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Walter Lex and Aline Frances Parrot Herron, Sr. Walt proudly served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam. He served many White Countians with Herron's Custom Exhaust. Walt looked forward to Sunday afternoons for Sunday dinners and Nascar racing. He enjoyed playing golf but above all else he loved spending time with his family .
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Glynon Herron.
Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 38 years Margaret Herron
Children: Teresa Pettit, Shane (Misty) Pettit and Titus (Jamie) Simmons
Grandchildren: LeAnne (Jeff) Hobbs, Leland (Davina) Bouldin, Daniel Seamons, Brenton Mooneyham, Slayton (Jemima) Pettit, Madysen Pettit, Dawson Simmons, Lucas Simmons, Aubrey Pettit
Nine great-grandchildren
Siblings: Ann (Don) Goldman, Marsha Curtis, Bobby (Diane) Herron, Phillip "Bo" Herron
Special friends: Harold England, Robert Meeks, Ricky Young, James Leftwich, Gary Parrish, Stephen Luna, Barry Smith and Bobby Kemp
A host of nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Doyle Church of the Nazarene. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard will follow in Skurlock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Wednesday and after 11:00am Thursday at the church. Brother Tracy Curtis and William Welch will officiate with special speakers Don Goldman and Bobby Kemp.
Slayton Pettit, Leland Bouldin, Dawson Simmons, Lucas Simmons, Alex Steiner, Stephen Luna, Morgan Young and Barry Smith will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Young and Harold England
