Obituary

Mr. Walter Buford Holman, better known as Buford, age 90 of Sparta, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Buford was born was born November 30, 1931 in the Lost Creek Community. He was the middle child of fifteen born to the late Walter Bransford & Bessie Cook Holman. Buford was a standout football player for WCHS from 1950-1952 and was the recipient of many awards and accolades during his high school career. He received a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee and later transferred to MTSU. When he left MTSU, he joined the United States Army and made it his career and retired as a Sargent First Class after 20 years of service. During his military career, he served a year in Vietnam and as a Tank Commander for the 11th Calvary Division in the invasion of Cambodia. When his military career ended, he returned to White County to farm and began a second career at Wagner. He was an avid Warrior, UT and Atlanta Braves fan. He loved his Lord, his family and his country.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his son, Irene Holman; brothers Chester, Stanford, Clifford, Herman, Leon and Walt Holman; sisters Estelene Cashdollar, Pauline Bennett, Dorothy McCall, Beulah Howell, Thelma Jean Clark; step-son Tim Kinnaird.

Grandchildren and spouses: Cody & Rachel Holman, Todd & Caroline Holman

Step-grandchildren: Alyssa Will, Kenneth Kinnaird, Zachary Kinnaird, Rebecca Whitaker, Sara Cobb, Wyatt Clayton, Hannah Ramsey, Colby Clayton

Brother: Raymond Holman

Sisters: Josephine Howard and Ernestine Holman

Six great-grandchildren

A host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday, August 13, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard will follow in Old Bon Air Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Doyle Crawford and Derrick Coble will officiate.

Cody Holman, Todd Holman, Matt Holman, Brant Holman, Jim Holman and Tom Kinnaird will serve the family as pallbearers.
